poor mary! she was only a ten-year-old little girl. no one wants her, and no one loves her. after her parents died of disease, she had been sent from india to yorkshire in england, and lived in her uncle’s family. that is an old house, and very big. although there were hundreds of rooms, most of them were locked. mary felt unpleasant and depressive living there. everyday her life was boring and lonely. with the exception of ben weatherstaff, an old gardener, no one talked to her. she lost her temper now and then, and, she, as ben weatherstaff said, was ugly. she had thin angry face and thin yellow hair.
there was a secret garden in her uncle’s home. it is said that the key of the lock of that garden gate was lost. so almost 10 years, except robins, no one went to that garden. mary became more and more curious. finally she
found the key, and invited her servant’s brother, dickon to play with her in that garden without letting others know.
strangely, mary often heard some cries in the house, hearing like a child. luckily, mary found the owner of the cries, colin, who was her uncle’s ten-year-old son. he was afraid of his back, which may be crooked, like his father, and he would die one day. fortunately, after mary helped colin to conquer this disease and this kind of thought and told him it was false. gradually under the help of mary colin became healthier and began to go to the secret garden with mary and dickon, and played with them together. henceforth, mary became more beautiful than before and never lost her temper. she and her cousin colin, lived happily.
what a wonderful story! and what changed colin and mary? is it magic? is it luck? all of them are not the key point. what really account are our attitudes towards life.
no one could succeed without a good attitude. the story is strong evidence proving that attitude can help to tide you over a period of difficulty. also it can change one’s life. the secret garden is not only secret for its door was locked, but also for the secret of attitude. everything in the world depends on attitude. different attitudes may make the things and situation different. optimistic attitude will help you to achieve your goals for it gives you hope and you will never be despaired and give up. while holding pessimistic just make you fell frustrated and give up at last.

This story has given an account of a little girl Mary who was self-abased has become a lively ,open and clear ,clever girl's process.During the period of this,she has known Diken and Colin.Colin was a disabled ,but he has finally overcome difficulties and saw the sunshine again with the help and encouragement of Mary and Diken .That lets me feel Mary is a nice girl ,because she can correct mistake,she is also eager to help people .when she knows Kelin is a disabled ,she didn't laugh at him ,but comforts him on the contrary ,did things for him ,and shared happiness and sadness with him.Diken is a kind-hearted boy ,because he went to give food to Colin when Colin was able to build again ,he certainly is also a child lively and actively.But Colin and he are completely different ,Colin always gets angry,slightly no satisfactory will be furious.But he also has merit.He is a persistent child ,insists walking every day.They three are just like one family,in harmony cheerful life of three people.I also admire Mary very much ,because she has given Colin courage ,happiness and confidence .Having read this story ,I understood that carrying through firmly is victory no matter what we do.So we must work hard for our dream.

"Secret Garden" is the U.S.writer Frances.Burnett's works.I have read the "Little Princess" is also her writing.So I am very interested in her works.

We remember her goodness:for someone who lost arms and blinded in eyes,for someone who despised her for her ordinariness,and even for someone who had hurt her deeply in the past.
We remember her pursuit of justice.It’s like a companion with the goodness.But still,a virtuous person should promote the goodness on one side and must check the badness on the other side.
We remember her self-respect and the clear situation on equality.In her opinion,everyone is the same at the God’s feet.Though there are differences in status、in property and also in appearance,but all the human being are equal in personality.
We also remember her striving for life,her toughness and her confidence…
When we think of this girl,what she gave us was not a pretty face or a transcendent temperament that make us admire deeply,but a huge charm of her personality.
Her story makes us thinking about life and we learn much from her experience,at least,that is a fresh new recognition of the real beauty.

The Scarlet Letter offers an extraordinary insight into the norms and behavior of the 17th century if American Puritan society. The basic conflicts and problems of its main characters, however, are familiar to readers in the present. The female protagonist, has borne a child out of wedlock and has been jailed for over three months and sentenced to wear a symbol of her adultery, a scarlet “A” on her dress at all times. It concerns about the moral, emotional and psychological effect of the sin on people in general. It’s not simply a love story or a story of sin. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne uses the scarlet letters to symbolize the h arshness of Puritan society, showing how they brand sinners for life.
The story happened in Boston about 200 years ago. It narrates love affairs between three persons. The punished woman. Hester Prynne and his husband. Who called himself Roger Chillingworth . He is an old misshapen man and a doctor. Hester does not love him at all. Another man is a young minister, Dimmesdale, who has a high position among ministers and is highly respected among his people in town. Hester and Dimmesdale love each other. But their love is forbidden in that time . It is sinful. Due to this,Hester is punished by society with a letter A on her chest, which considered an evil, a shame.
In this novel, the mainline seems to be around the letter A. Hester is brave enough to face the cruel reality. She is always with a mind of courage. She has been alone with her child for so long , with litter communication. Shame! Hopelessness! Loneliness! Hester has to wear the letter A day after day, seven years as for punishment and ill fame.
When a woman has lived through a difficult experience, her character changes a great deal. If she be all tenderness, she will die. If she survive, the tenderness will leave her .Hester’s charitable deeds and quiet humility have earned her a reprieve from the scorn of the community. The letter on her chest represents her work on earth , always helping others, without expecting any thanks. Never afterwards, does that scarlet letter leave her chest. The townspeople no longer view the letter as a punishment , but rather as representing her great strength and bravery and thy say it means “Able”。
But Arthur Dimmesdale, his sin against Hester and Pearl is that he will not acknowledge them as his wife and daughter in the daylight. He keeps his dreadful secret from all those under his care in the church for seven years for fear that he will lose their love and will not be forgiven. He is too weak to admit his sins. He suffers from mysterious heart trouble, seemingly caused by psychological distress. What’s worse, he is an advisor to the townspeople about their sins.
After Mr. Dimmesdale’s death , no one changes more in appearance than Roger Chilling worth. All his strength and energy has been used to harm his patient . This unhappy man has made his aim in life to add to the suffering of the young minister. When the evil old man no longer has such a purpose, the devil takes him back to the hell . It is a curious subject of observation, however, whether hatred or love are not of the same place. Each takes a great deal of emotion from one person. The two feelings seem basically the same, expect that one is smiled upon by God, while the other is worshipped by the devil.
The two lovers has ever decided to flee to Europe, where they can live with their dauthter Pearl as a family .They feel a sense of release there. However, their plan fails…… When Hester dies, she is buried next to Dimmesdale. The two share a single tombstone, with a deep colored letter A shining brightly.
